Scenario planning is necessary because things happen all the time that have never happened before.

THINGS THAT HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THAT HAPPENED ON FEBRUARY 19:

356 AD: Constantius, Roman Emperor, orders all pagan temples closed in the Roman empire.

1859: Daniel E. Sickles, a New York Congressman, is the first person ever to be acquitted of murder by reason of temporary insanity.

1861: Serfdom is abolished in Russia.

1960: China launches its first rocket.

1985: The first artificial heart recipient leaves the hospital.

In 1863 that same Daniel E. Sickles, now Major General Sickles, commanded the III Corps of the Union's Army of the Potomac and almost single-handedly lost the Battle of Gettysburg for the North.
