March 7 History Scenarios

Some days you just think you know; on those days, you should do scenario planning.

321: Constantine the Great gives everyone in the Roman Empire Sunday off. (Technically, it is known as dies Solis Invicti.)

1850: Daniel Webster gives his Seventh of March Speech endorsing the Great Compromise of 1850, a policy initiative designed in order to forestall a civil war over slavery.

1862: Union forces defeat the Confederates at Pea Ridge, Arkansas, a battle of the War of the Great Failed Daniel Webster Compromise.

1876: Alexander Graham Bell receives a patent on an invention he calls the telephone. Shortly thereafter his daughter takes the patent into her room and won't give it back for hours.

1912: Roald Amundsen announces that his expedition made it to the South Pole on December 14, 1911. (You could have just called, Roald.)
