As Patrick Marren discusses in his recent blog, the 3.0 edition of Creating and Sustaining Strategic Intent in the U.S. Coast Guard has now been released. Working together over many years, FSG partnered with the Coast Guard in developing the content and case studies for the publication. It tells the story of Project Evergreen’s evolution as a scenario-based strategic management process, with tangible and practical application to operations, resource decisions, and human capital planning, and more.
Across the U.S. government, the Coast Guard has been credited with institutionalizing scenario planning by synchronizing the process to the commandant’s tenure, by reaching out to hundreds of Coast Guard personnel (military and civilian, officers and enlisted), and integrating it into training and personnel development. Since Evergreen began in 1998 (when it was known as Long View), literally thousands of Coast Guard men and women have participated in Evergreen strategy workshops and working sessions.
Creating and Sustaining Strategic Intent tells a great story, and is a great resource for scenario practitioners of all backgrounds. You can download the pdf here. Enjoy, and let us know what you think.
